Jason & Mo

         The Jason & Mo Friendship Fund was formed in 1994 in memory of Jason Leader, a special child who touched the hearts of many with his kind and gentle spirit. Sadly, on August 15, 1994, at the age of 12, Jason lost his four year battle with cancer at his home with his family in Niverville, NY. That year, and every year since, Jason’s family and friends have come together to celebrate Jason’s life and participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk.
         The Jason and Mo Friendship Fund was created based on the story of a special relationship formed between a young baseball fan fighting his cancer at Dana-Farber/ Children’s Hospital and a Boston Red Sox first baseman.  At the beginning of their relationship Mo Vaughn hit a home run in Jason’s honor then later they joined together to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
         On September 8, 2013 we will be participating in our 20 th Jimmy Fund Walk not only in memory of Jason, our special angel, but in support of those who are fighting their battle with cancer, in memory of those who have lost their battle and in celebration of those who have won their battle. We walk with the hope of finding a cure so other families will not have to suffer the devastating loss of a loved one.
         The Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Center is acclaimed as having the top-ranked pediatric cancer and blood disease program in the U.S. The Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.  The generosity of millions of people has helped the Jimmy Fund save countless lives and reduce the burden of cancer for patients and families worldwide.
         This year celebrates our team’s 20 th year walking in the Jimmy Fund Walk. In an effort to raise money for this year’s milestone walk the Jason & Mo Friendship Fund team will be hosting a Pig Roast on August 18th at The Niverville Pub as well as sponsoring opportunity drawings and the sales of commemorative items.  Any donations or contributions to this event will be greatly appreciated as all proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund Walk under the Jason & Mo Friendship Fund team.  Learn more about the Jimmy Fund Walk by going to www.jimmyfundwalk.org Look for us under Teams.
